Behind Systems Over Signals

About the author

Gaurav Singhal

I have spent much of my professional life around the places where new financial technologies meet established institutions. The technical idea is often only the beginning. What determines whether it works at scale is the less visible architecture around it: incentives, operating rules, governance, trust and the ability of different organisations to coordinate.

My work over the past decade has crossed fintech strategy, digital transformation, policy and industry collaboration. I currently serve as General Manager at the Self-Regulated PSO Association (SRPA), an RBI-recognised self-regulatory organisation for payment system operators in India. That professional experience has made me particularly interested in the distance between what a technology makes possible and what a financial system can safely, reliably and broadly support.

Systems Over Signals is where I follow those questions independently. I write about the changing architecture of money and payments, new forms of financial infrastructure, AI and autonomous economic systems, and the institutional choices that shape their development. Some essays begin with a new protocol or company announcement; others start with a regulatory boundary, an operating problem or an overlooked assumption. The aim is the same: to understand the mechanism before drawing conclusions from the headline.

Alongside the essays, Systems Over Signals maintains research projects. The first, the Agentic Payments Ecosystem Map, is a dated and sourced record of agentic payment programs across the payment stack, corrected in public.

This is a personal research and publishing initiative. The views here are my own and do not represent SRPA or any other organisation.

I am interested in exchanging ideas with founders, operators and researchers who are confronting substantive questions about financial infrastructure, autonomous systems, strategy or governance. A specific question or thoughtful counterargument is always a good place to begin.
